Stretch ceiling is one of the types of so-called suspended ceilings, which gives great design possibilities, but it is not without its drawbacks. What are the pros and cons of a stretch ceiling in the interior?
Before we present the advantages and disadvantages of a stretch ceiling in the room, it is worth explaining what actually characterizes this type of finishing element. Stretch ceilings were already known in ancient Rome and Greece, today we can use them in a modernized version. For their production we use a thermo-shrinkable PVC form or polyester fabric cut to a specific size (matte, semi-gloss, glossy). What is “stretching”? It consists in heating the air with a special heater, thanks to which the material becomes flexible. So we can easily adjust it to our ceiling.
Manufacturers of stretch ceilings offer a wide range of colors and finishes of the fabric. We can even order an individual pattern, making the interior unique and special. Stretch ceiling does not load the ceiling, it is light (the whole construction is no more than 35 mm). In addition, this type of ceiling is really fast and easy to install, usually just a few hours to enjoy the changed room.
This is not the end of the advantages of stretch ceiling. We can thanks to it mask the unsightly cables, pipes, stains on the ceiling or the paint coming off. Stretch ceiling is resistant to moisture and fire (the fabric does not ignite, but only melts). Importantly, it is also easy to keep clean (we can easily vacuum the entire surface). Of course, this solution also has some disadvantages. What are they?
The first disadvantage of a stretch ceiling is its low resistance to mechanical damage. For example, if you snag the fabric with the edge of a piece of furniture while moving it; the entire stretch ceiling will need to be replaced. Another disadvantage is the limited area of the room in which we can install this type of ceiling. In interiors larger than 20m2 it can be quite problematic. The fabric may stretch under the influence of weight and fall, in some places unsightly folds may form
Many people who are interested in installing a stretch ceiling in their house or apartment wonder what cost they should prepare themselves for? Depending on the material used, the given manufacturer and possible installation challenges, it may range from 70 to even 200 PLN per m2. Many companies providing this type of service place special calculators on their websites, it is worth using these tools to find out the approximate cost of a stretch ceiling with installation.
It is a great solution for high interiors, characteristic of the old type of construction. Stretch ceiling can also be used in the case of slants – wherever you want to quickly mask the unsightly places. What color variants do customers choose most often? Very popular are white and gray stretch ceilings, which are timeless. There is also no shortage of lovers of high-gloss ceilings with discreet led backlighting.
