Gas installations. Which one to choose for single-family house?
It takes approx. 5 minutes to read this article

Heating a house with gas guarantees high comfort both because of the quality of such heating and the fact that its use does not require maintenance. Moreover, it is an environmentally friendly solution. What else should you know about gas installations? We invite you to read.

Despite numerous advantages of gas heating, some people have doubts about the safety of gas installations. There are also concerns connected with the costs of their installation. First of all you need to find out, whether gas installation is possible in your building, because not every situation allows for installation of such a system. The project of installation and its assembly should be made only by professionals with appropriate authorizations in the scope of gas installations. See what else you should know about gas installations and what kind of installation you should choose for your detached house.

Types of gas installations

Gas is one of the so-called conventional energy fuels. It is particularly popular among private investors. In detached houses, gas heating systems are used to heat the living space, domestic water and, to a large extent, the kitchen hobs

Which form of gas heating system is right for your home?

Due to the form of supplied gas the heating installation can have two forms, these are:

  • natural gas – this form of heating is only possible in a situation where there is a gas installation network in the vicinity of your house;
  • LPG – this is liquid gas stored in a special tank located outside your house. This method of heating is quite expensive, but hassle-free when it comes to its operation.

Building a gas installation

In the case of a single-family home, the gas installation is made up of a system of pipes and devices that are run outside and inside the building. They include:

  • connection led to the gas pipeline,
  • main tap,
  • distribution inlet,
  • gas cabinet with a gas meter,
  • riser,
  • utility pipes directed to gas appliances.

Gas boiler room

One of the advantages of gas boilers is that they do not occupy much space and do not require maintenance. Moreover, the place where they are installed remains clean. In the case of single-family houses, gas boilers are usually wall-mounted devices of small size. The heating power of the boiler is important. In houses, the most common are 30 kW boilers, which we can place on any floor (including the basement). The most recommended solution is to place the gas installation in a separate room

Types of gas boilers:

  • condensing boilers – these are currently the most recommended gas boilers; they recover heat from water vapour;
  • low-temperature boilers – such boilers protect the installation and allow reduction of heating costs;
  • boilers with open combustion chamber – in case of such boilers, the oxygen for combustion is taken from the room, so the boiler has to be installed in a room no smaller than 8 sq.m., with fresh air inflow through a hole of at least 2 sq.m. and a gravity ventilation grate of the same size
  • boilers with closed combustion chamber – may be placed in any room not smaller than 6.5 sq. m, with gravitational ventilation finished with a grate of 2 sq. m

Connection to the gas network

In order to obtain a permission to make a connection to the gas network, we have to apply to the gas supplier. The next step is to submit a special application specifying the conditions of connection. The application should be accompanied by a map of the building (with the marked location of the gas cabinet) for information purposes and a copy of a document confirming the legal title to use the premises, as well as a statement of ownership. After submitting the application, a project of gas connection is prepared. It is also necessary to submit a construction notification to the appropriate authority (e.g. the starost’s office).

What are the costs of gas heating in a single-family house?

When choosing a heating system for our house one of the main issues to consider is the cost of heating related to the particular type of system. What is the situation with gas heating?

Below we present a cost calculation for gas heating in case of a 150 sq.m. detached house heated with a gas condensing boiler, taking into account that the heating season in Poland lasts about half a year. The comparison takes into account energy consumption for heating, ventilation and hot water preparation. The energy consumption limits set by the ordinance on Technical Specifications (TS) were followed.

The list includes consumption of the so called final energy – energy delivered to the borders of the plot – it is this energy that we pay for. Given values are approximate, the real demand for heat usually turns out to be higher.

Durable and solid PVC windows
Choosing the right windows is quite a challenge. On the market you can find many models made of different materials In connection with this in recent years more and more popular began to enjoy the wooden windows, but this does not mean, however, that those made of PVC went completely away. They still have many advantages which speak for their purchase and installation. What are they? Here we discuss them Why are PVC windows the most popular choice? The popularity and ubiquity of PVC windows results first of all from their relatively low price - in comparison with other materials. At the same time they still provide very good parameters, for example those related to thermal insulation or soundproofing. In addition they look good regardless of the architectural style in which the building was constructed and are available in many colors to choose from to make it easier to match them in terms of style to the facade of the building or its surroundings. That's why they still haven't fallen out of the market in spite of high competition from wooden windows. 4 main advantages of PVC windows The above mentioned advantages of PVC windows are not the only ones. Apart from that you can also enumerate their four most important features, which speak for the purchase of just such models High resistance PVC windows are extremely resistant to various atmospheric factors. They are not destroyed under the influence of high and low temperatures or intense sunlight falling directly on their surface. Additionally, thanks to the fact that the material from which they are made does not absorb moisture, they are also resistant to mould and mildew and prevent the development of insects Long lasting durability Another advantage of PVC windows is their durability, which can be up to 50 years, thanks to which replacing windows with just such models can solve the problem associated with this element of the building structure for the entire generation of the family Excellent tightness In addition, PVC windows are also characterized by excellent acoustic insulation, or the ability to suppress sounds from outside the building. Therefore, they are recommended for installation in particular where there are busy traffic routes behind the window, playgrounds or other places generating high levels of noise. This parameter is also not without influence on the thermal insulation of PVC windows, which affects the reduced inflow of air from outside. This feature is extremely important especially during the heating period, because it has a positive effect on heating bills Easy care The last of the key advantages of PVC windows is the fact that in order for them to present themselves impeccably, apart from occasional cleaning of frames, they do not require almost any care, in comparison with wooden models, which should be painted protectively. Moreover, their cleaning itself does not require the purchase of specialized agents either. All you need is warm water with dishwashing liquid, a soft cloth and glass cleaner to restore their original splendour and cleanliness How to take care of PVC windows? In spite of the fact that after being installed in buildings PVC windows require almost no user's interference in their construction in order to fulfil their task efficiently, sometimes there are situations in which they need some attention. Such an eventuality may be a slight lowering of the window frame in the first year of its use. However, then it is enough to adjust them with a wrench to be able to enjoy their full functionality again To sum up, PVC windows are one of the best choices in case of buildings located in noisy neighbourhoods as they provide excellent acoustic insulation. Moreover, they don't require any complicated maintenance or upkeep and are guaranteed to last up to 50 years. All this combined with a low price makes them worth taking an interest in, choosing window fittings not only for houses but also for public buildings
