It would seem that the choice of grout is a secondary matter and you do not need to bother with it. However, it turns out that grout, in addition to its basic practical functions, also becomes an additional decoration of the room, which not everyone realizes.

Properly selected grout can completely change the face of the interior, regardless of whether the tiles are placed on the wall or on the floor. Therefore, it is worth considering which grout to choose, especially when dealing with light-colored tiles.

How to choose grout for tiles?

Grout primarily performs practical functions. It cushions, protects, and strengthens the adhesion of the tiles. It also provides a smooth surface, so that water and dirt do not get between the various elements, and as a result, bacteria and fungi do not multiply. The tasks of grout also include preventing cracks and deformation of the glued tiles, so it is worth betting on a better quality product suitable in terms of specialized properties, even if this will involve a higher price. Remember that tiles and grout are usually an investment for years, so in the end it is not worth saving too much. Admittedly, it is possible to replace grout, but it is time-consuming and involves a lot of mess.

However, we should not forget about the decorative aspect of this element. Properly fitted grout will emphasize the shape, texture, as well as the color of the tiles. In the past, there was a belief that white grout was best suited to light-colored tiles, but this is not always the best solution. At the very beginning of the search, we need to know what effect we want to achieve and strive for it.

Plastic background

Whether we choose grout for floor tiles or wall tiles, we need to think about what we want to achieve. It is also worth thinking about what furniture and accessories will be placed in the room. If you want to get a non-overlapping, harmonious background for further interior experiments, it is better to bet on a light-colored grout, which will allow you to create a uniform and even background. What’s more, bright colors will allow you to optically enlarge the interior and brighten it up. The aforementioned white will work great, but also beiges, creams, grays. However, betting just on them, we must be aware that – especially if it is a tile for the floor – keeping them clean will require a lot of work, strength and patience. However, the effect we get is usually worth the effort.

The power of contrast

An interesting design trick, which is often used with light-colored tiles, is the use of dark and clearly contrasting grout, which adds character. Here, dark grout allows you to accentuate the shape of the tiles, their size, layout or arrangement. It is then worth thinking about black, browns or colors that will appear in the accessories.

Striking glitter

An interesting and increasingly popular solution are grouts in shades of gold and silver, as well as those with glitter flecks, which also go perfectly with bright tiles. They are definitely more decorative, so it is better to bet on them with simple tile models, so as not to overdo it. These grouts will blend sensationally, especially in glamorous interiors. To further emphasize their qualities, it is worth taking care of appropriate interior lighting, which will highlight their beauty.
